NORMAN — Fueled by a meet-ending 49.750 — the second-highest score on floor exercise in program history — and a perfect 10 on vault by junior
Katherine LeVasseur, the No. 1-ranked Oklahoma women's gymnastics team posted a 198.400-195.925 home win over Arizona State on Senior Day at Lloyd Noble Center on Sunday.
OU's 198.400 stands as the highest score nationally this weekend, the third-highest score in the country this year (it also posted a national-best 198.575 three weeks ago) and tied for the seventh-best total in program history. Today's floor score is also tied for the second-best in the nation this season.
"So pumped about our floor performance tonight," head coach
K.J. Kindler said. "Not only did they perform with more confidence but the energy starting with Bell (Johnson) and continuing all the way to Dani (Sievers) was electric. Ragan (Smith) and Bell (Johnson) really stood out to me tonight on that event."
OU recorded six individual career highs on the day, including three on floor alone. The Sooners also swept the individual standings on all four events and the all-around. LeVasseur's vault title was the 12th of her career — 12th most in OU history — and fourth this season.
"Kat is showing such incredible awareness on vault and when she nails it, it really lights a fire under the team," Kindler noted.
Sophomore
Jordan Bowers and super senior
Olivia Trautman shared the bars title with a pair of 9.950s. The score was a career high for Trautman and season high for Bowers. Smith took home a pair of individual titles on beam and floor with 9.975 each. Her floor score matched a career high. Freshman
Faith Torrez captured her first career beam title (shared with Smith).
Bowers also captured her seventh career all-around crown and sixth this season with a 39.625. It moved her up to eighth in the OU record book for all-around titles in a single season and sixth for a career. With her third straight score of 39.500-plus in the all-around this season and fourth overall, junior
Audrey Davis finished second with a 39.500.
OU opened the meet with a 49.525 on vault, highlighted by LeVasseur's perfect score and junior
Sheridan Ramsey in the exhibition spot. Sophomore Dani Sievers and super senior
Allie Stern started the Sooners with a pair of 9.875s and were followed by LeVasseur's 10.0. Trautman added her fourth straight score of 9.900-plus this season with a 9.925, followed by Bowers and Davis with 9.850 and 9.825s, respectively. With a 9.950 start value, Ramsey stuck her Yurchenko full for a career-high 9.900.
The Sooners continued the momentum on bars with a pair of 9.875s from Sievers and Torrez to start the rotation. The Sooners put up three consecutive scores of 9.900-plus from Smith (9.900) and 9.950s from Trautman (career high) and Bowers (season high). Davis anchored the rotation with a 9.875, while freshman
Ava Siegfeldt made her collegiate bars debut in the exhibition spot with a 9.825.
"Faith stepped in for Danae (Fletcher) on bars and was swinging really strong and didn't hold back at all," Kindler said. "I loved the mentality she showed."
The Sooners stuck all six of their beam dismounts while facing some adversity on the event. Their performance was highlighted by a pair of 9.975s from Smith and Torrez (career high). In her solo performance on Senior Day,
Jenna Dunn led off the Sooners with a 9.850. Following a fall from Trautman in the No. 2 spot, Bowers performed under pressure to stick her double-twist dismount for a 9.875. Davis added her fifth 9.900 or higher score of the season with a 9.900 on the event. LeVasseur performed in the exhibition spot and posted a 9.775.
"When you have an error, as a coach you like to see them continuing to compete aggressively," Kindler said. "On beam, they did just that, and Ragan ended with an exclamation point."
OU closed out strong to take home its 69th consecutive home victory and keep the senior class undefeated. The Sooners tied for the second-highest score nationally this season on floor with a 49.750. All six floor participants scored at least a 9.900 and four of them registered at least a 9.950.
Johnson returned to the floor lineup and started the final rotation with a bang for a career-high 9.950. Davis earned a 9.900 before Smith matched a personal-best 9.975 with her powerful tumbling and energetic dance. Bowers followed with a 9.950, as did Torrez, the seventh time for her to register that score this season on the event. Sievers anchored the floor lineup for the first time this year and registered a 9.925,her seventh 9.900 or higher this season.
After the meet, OU recognized its four seniors – Dunn, Smith, Stern and Trautman – for their outstanding contributions to the program and college gymnastics.
"Our senior class (is comprised of) incredible women with huge hearts," Kindler said. "It has been an honor to coach them."
