Head coach
Jennie Baranczyk's veteran team will take on No. 12-seeded Portland in Saturday's first round, with the winner taking on the victor of No. 4-seeded and host UCLA vs. No. 13-seeded Sacramento State with the pod's first- and second-round games played in Los Angeles.
"We're excited to continue our season in the NCAA Tournament," head coach
Jennie Baranczyk said. "The chance to keep playing with this team is special and what we've worked toward all season. We're proud that we get to keep representing Oklahoma, and we look forward to next weekend."
One of the most successful regular seasons in program history saw No. 14/12 Oklahoma (25-6, 14-4) win its seventh Big 12 championship after the Sooners shared the regular season title with Texas. The Sooners posted sweeps over TCU, Kansas State, Texas Tech, Kansas, West Virginia and Oklahoma State in the regular season, setting a program record with six season sweeps. In addition, the team's 14 wins in conference play were the most since the 2009 Final Four team went 15-1 in league action.
A staple of the NCAA postseason, the Sooners have now made 23 NCAA Tournaments, including 21 since the turn of the century. The Sooners' 23 appearances in the tournament are the second most in the Big 12 Conference. The Sooners' selection is the second consecutive under Baranczyk, who is in her second season as the OU head coach.
