Williams Selected as Finalist For Cheryl Miller Award

NORMAN – For the second consecutive season, Madi Williams has been named one of five finalists for the Cheryl Miller Award, given annually to the top small forward in women's college basketball.
Williams, who ranks inside Oklahoma's all-time top five in points and rebounds, leads the 16th-ranked Sooners in points and steals this season, and is in the team's top three in rebounds and assists. A two-time unanimous All-Big 12 first-team selection and WBCA All-America honorable mention last year, the forward has cemented herself as one of the country's top two-way players.
The senior is the only player in the country to average 24.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per 40 minutes this season, as Williams has seen her player efficiency rating skyrocket to over 29.0. Earlier this season, she became the first Sooner to eclipse 2,000 points, 850 rebounds and 300 assists in their career. She needs just 22 more rebounds to become the third Oklahoma women's player with 2,000 career points and 1,000 rebounds, joining Courtney Paris and Molly McGuire.
The Sooner joins Iowa State's Ashley Joens, Stanford's Haley Jones, Tennessee's Rickea Jackson and Utah's Gianna Kneepkens as a finalist for the honor. Fans can support their favorite player by participating in Fan Voting, presented by Dell Technologies, starting Friday, March 3, on hoophallawards.com. The Fan Vote will count as one committee vote during the finalist selection process. The finalists will be presented to Miller and the Hall of Fame's selection committee this month. The Selection Committee for the Cheryl Miller Award is comprised of top women's college basketball personnel, including media members, head coaches, sports information directors and Hall of Famers.
The 2023 Cheryl Miller Award winner will be presented on a to-be-determined date, along with the four other Women's Starting Five members. Additional awards being presented include the Nancy Lieberman Award (Point Guard), Ann Meyers Drysdale Award (Shooting Guard), the Katrina McClain Award (Power Forward) and the Lisa Leslie Award (Center), in addition to the Men's Starting Five.
Williams and the Sooners are two wins away from clinching at least a share of the program's first Big 12 championship since 2009. Oklahoma tips off vs. Kansas State on Senior Night tonight, March 1, at 6 p.m. at Lloyd Noble Center.
