Future Sooner Williams Named to Team USA For Nike Summit

February 16, 2023 | Women's Basketball

NORMAN – Oklahoma women's basketball signee Sahara Williams was named to the inaugural USA Basketball Nike Hoops Summit Roster, USA Basketball announced this week.

Williams, who signed with the Sooners in November 2022, played on Team USA's gold-medal-winning team at the U18 3x3 World Championships last summer. The Nike Hoop Summit will be on Saturday, April 8, at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon. For the first time in Nike Hoop Summit history, the 2023 event features a men's and the inaugural women's game, with the top American high school athletes facing off against World Teams of top international players 19 and younger.

Williams is one of two players in Oklahoma's 2023 signing class, joining Tuttle, Okla., product Landry Allen. A five-star prospect out of Iowa, she is ranked as ESPN's No. 23 player in the 2023 class and the country's fifth-best guard. Williams is averaging 20.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 3.6 steals per game as a senior for West Waterloo HS, which is ranked third in the state with a 20-1 record entering the postseason. At the 2022 3x3 U18 world championship, Williams dominated on both sides of the ball to guide Team USA to a perfect 7-0 record and a 21-11 win over Germany in the gold-medal match. A three-time first-team All-Metro selection and first-team All-Mississippi Valley honoree, Williams was the MVC Player of the Year in 2022. She chose Oklahoma over several Power Five schools, including Iowa, Iowa State and USC.

Williams, a semifinalist for the Naismith National Prep Player of the Year, is also slated to play in the McDonald's All-American Game on March 28. She awaits the roster announcement for the Jordan Brand Classic, which is played in mid-April.
