OU Drops Battle To No. 5 Georgia

SEATTLE, Wash. - The No. 15 Oklahoma women's tennis team fell 5-2 to No. 5 Georgia in the quarterfinals of the ITA National Indoor championships on Saturday.
Georgia came out strong in doubles and claimed the opening point. No. 16 Alexandra Pisareva and Layne Sleeth took court two against Mell Reasco and Meg Kowalski, 6-1, but UGA answered with a court-three win from Ania Hertel and Anastasiia Lopata over Julia Garcia Ruiz and Dana Guzman, 6-1.
The Bulldogs clinched the doubles point at the top court, with Mai Nirundorn and Guillermina Grant taking the match 6-3 over Carmen and Ivana Corley.
Singles opened with a Sooner win from Pisareva on court six over Nirundorn, 6-1, 6-3. Georgia came back with a 6-2, 7-6 (7) win on court two from No. 40 Dasha Vidmanova against No. 96 Carmen Corley. Extending the lead to 3-1, Kowalski took court three, 6-0, 1-6, 6-3 over OU's Guzman.
OU took the win on court five from Emma Staker over Anna Hertel, 2-6, 6-1, 7-5, but Georgia claimed the remaining two courts. To clinch the match, UGA's No. 39 Reasco defeated Garcia Ruiz 7-6 (5), 2-6, 6-3 at the No. 4 spot. The last court played out at the top court, with UGA extending the victory to 5-2 after a 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 win from No. 11 Lea Ma over Sleeth.

The Sooners will face either Texas or Iowa State in the consolation round.
