NORMAN – Oklahoma men's basketball dropped its second 2023 meeting with No. 9/8 Kansas 78-55 at Lloyd Noble Center on Saturday afternoon.
Jalen Hill led the Sooners (12-13, 2-10 Big 12) with 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting and pulled down five boards.
Otega Oweh received his second consecutive start and reached double figures, scoring 11 points.
Grant Sherfield tallied the first five points of the game and finished with 10 points.
OU raced out to an early lead and scored the first seven points of the contest. The Sooners maintained their advantage over the visiting Jayhawks through the first 13 minutes.
Tanner Groves battled in the lane for the tough two and put the Sooners up 18-15. Kansas' K.J. Adams and Kevin McCullar responded with back-to-back baskets and KU grabbed its first lead of the contest. Hill raced down the floor and put the Sooners back up one with a soft lay-in at the rim. KU finished the half on a 15-2 run.
Down 35-22 at the break, the Sooners put together a 10-2 run and scored eight unanswered points to conclude the spurt. Sherfield buried a three to start the streak and Hill corralled the rebound and drove coast-to-coast. Oweh buried his first career 3-pointer and cut the KU lead to 37-32.
The Jayhawks tallied back-to-back baskets to push their lead back to 10. Shefield and Uzan answered with a pair of baskets and brought the score differential back to six.
KU tallied six unanswered points to extend its advantage to 12. The Jayhawks controlled the final 14 minutes of the contest and did not let its lead dip below 10.
