OU Brings Energy in Intrasquad Scrimmage

NORMAN – The Oklahoma men's gymnastics team held its annual red-white intrasquad scrimmage Saturday afternoon at Sam Viersen Gymnastics Center.
The red team defeated the white squad in a spirited competition. The intrasquad meet was OU's first opportunity to perform routines in front of fans and a panel of judges in preparation for the 2024 season.
"We had really good energy today," head coach Mark Williams said. "It was nice to see what we've been doing in training is paying off in competition. I saw a lot of good performances. There are certainly things we'll be working on as we get into January and the start of the season, but this was a good kickoff, and we appreciate the fans who came out to watch."
The Sooners competed on all six events in front of judges.
"I was actually pretty excited with how we finished today," senior captain Jack Freeman said. "We had a lot of younger guys fill in positions that opened up from all of our graduates last year and that was awesome to see this early on. Older guys did their job and led the way for new guys, which is how you build consistency in a team. I'm just really excited for this season. I think this is a good starting point and we can always move up from here."
Senior captain Dan Simmons added: "We obviously have a new team and a young team. We had a lot of guys getting into positions that they've never done before. It was good to see how they did under pressure. We just need to refine and get good at hitting under pressure. This was a good test for us."
The Sooners open the 2024 season on Jan. 13 against Air Force at McCasland Field House. The meet is set to begin at 6 p.m.
Season tickets are available for $25 for general admission and $15 for youth (ages 6-18) and seniors (55+), while single-meet tickets are on sale for $7 for adults and $5 for youth/seniors. Group packages are available for groups of 10 or more at a discounted price by contacting the ticket office. OU faculty and staff, and letterwinners, can also purchase season tickets for $15.
