December 08, 2023 | Women's Tennis

NORMAN – Oklahoma women's tennis head coach Audra Cohen and the Sooners welcomed Salakthip Ounmuang to the program for the fall 2024 season today.

Ounmuang, who goes by Mew, hails from Bangkok, Thailand, and has a singles WTA career-high ranking of 851.

"We are really excited to add Salakthip to our Sooner family," Cohen said. "She's a wonderful person from a gracious family, and we are thrilled to help her in the next stage of her career. Her tennis level and values are in line with our standard here at Oklahoma, and we can't wait for her to arrive in Norman."

Ounmuang has won nine ITF titles: eight ITF junior singles titles and one women's 15K doubles title with former Sooner Anchisa Chanta. Additionally, Ounmuang trains with former professional tennis player Paradorn Srichaphan, who has a career-high ATP singles ranking of No. 9.

"I'm so glad, excited and happy to be a part of the team," Ounmuang said. "The coaches and teammates are so nice and lovely. They gave me a really warm welcome." The Sooners will return to the court in January for spring duals. A schedule will be released at a later date.
