Sooners Add Roisin Gilheany for Spring 2024

November 08, 2023 | Women's Tennis

NORMAN – Oklahoma women's tennis head coach Audra Cohen announced the addition of Roisin Gilheany to the Sooners for Spring 2024.

Gilheany, who hails from Melbourne, Australia, joins Chloe Noel in the 2024 signing class. Gilheany has climbed as high as No. 69 in the ITF junior rankings.

"We are really excited for Roisin to join our Sooner family," head coach Audra Cohen said. "She has a domineering game with big weapons that will continue to develop. Her serve allows her to control points from the first ball, and she can finish at the net comfortably. She's a proven doubles player with a huge upside for the future. We have had a rich tradition of Aussies in both men's and women's programs here at OU and we are so excited to continue that tradition."

This year, Gilheany competed at three Junior Grand Slams: the Australian Open Junior Championships, US Open Junior Championships and Wimbledon Junior Championships. At the Wimbledon Junior championships, Gilheany advanced to the main draw. In 2021, she won the J4 Preveza, her first juniors singles title.

Roisin has won nine junior ITF doubles titles and recently was a finalist for the W25K Doubles Cairns.

"The reason I chose OU is because of the connection I have with the team and the coaches," Gilheany said. "I feel like Oklahoma is the place where I can grow as a person and a player and where I can reach my goal of being a professional tennis player. Boomer Sooner."

The Sooners will take to the court this weekend at the Big 12 Fall Individual Championships, their final fall event of the season.
