Women’s Gymnastics Reveals Exciting 2024 Schedule

November 16, 2023 | Women's Gymnastics

NORMAN – The Oklahoma women's gymnastics team will be put to the test in 2024 with an exciting schedule as the six-time and back-to-back national champions look to pursue a third-straight national title.

Head coach K.J. Kindler and Vice President and Director of Athletics Joe Castiglione revealed Friday the Sooners' full competition schedule featuring matchups against six teams who advanced to the NCAA Championships in 2023, including third and fourth-place finishers Utah and LSU. OU will also host the Big 12 Championship in its final season in the conference.

"This schedule is fire from beginning to end," Kindler said. "The talent we will see is the best of the best. The road schedule will be intense, and the home opportunities will push us to reach our ultimate potential. Our team understands the challenges ahead and we are preparing for the long game. Every weekend is an "ON" weekend for the Sooners."

Opening day is set for Friday, Jan. 5, at the Super 16 in Las Vegas, Nev., with OU's opponents to be announced at a later date. The meet will be the first of three-straight quad meets for Oklahoma to start the season.

One of the most anticipated competitions of the 2024 season will take place at the inaugural Sprouts Farmer's Market Collegiate Quad, airing on ABC. The meet will feature the Sooners alongside NCAA Championship finalists LSU and Utah and NCAA Championship qualifier, UCLA. The meet is set for Saturday, Jan. 13, at the Maverick Center in West Valley City, Utah.

Rounding out the first three road trips of the year, Oklahoma will head to conference rival Denver for a Sunday afternoon quad meet with UCLA and Stanford on Jan. 21.

After a tough road slate to start the year, the Sooners will return home to Norman for the first of six home meets in 2024. OU will face 2023 NCAA Championship qualifier Denver inside Lloyd Noble Center on Jan. 26.

"We are pumped for the continuation of our growing fan base and attendance," Kindler said. "The energy in the LNC is indescribable and the student-athletes are thriving in that environment. We can't wait to get started!"

The month of February opens with the Sooners back on the road for a matchup against Arizona State and California in Tempe, Ariz., Feb. 2.

BYU, TWU and Utah State will make the trek to the LNC for a quad meet on Feb. 9 and West Virginia will head to Norman on Feb. 23.

OU will look to defend its title at the Metroplex Challenge on Feb. 17 against Arkansas, Washington and California. Held at the Fort Worth Convention Center, the Sooners will get yet another opportunity to compete on podium before the postseason.

The Sooners have a double-meet weekend to open the month of March with one of the most exciting matchups in the LNC as Michigan returns to Norman on March 1. The meet will feature the only two active head coaches who have won an NCAA Championship in Kindler and Michigan's Bev Plocki.

OU will then travel to TWU on March 3 for a tri-meet featuring the Clemson Tigers in their first season of NCAA competition.

The regular season ends with a pair of meets against future SEC conference opponents. OU will head to Arkansas for the first time since 2019 on March 10.

The final home meet of the season takes place on March 17 as the Alabama Crimson Tide make the trip to Norman. The Sooners are undefeated against the Crimson Tide since 2013.

Fans will be able to watch OU women's gymnastics home meets on various ESPN networks, including select meets on ESPN+. Additional television coverage will be announced at a later date.

The Sooners will host the Big 12 Championship at Lloyd Noble Center, welcoming BYU, Denver, Iowa State and West Virginia on March 23 for the podium meet.

"As we embark on our final season in the Big 12, it is bittersweet," Kindler said. "I personally have been a part of the Big 8 and Big 12 for 35 years. For us to have the opportunity to host the Big 12 Championship here in Norman is an honor as a final farewell to the conference that has enhanced the building of our program and celebrated our success with us. I cannot think of a more appropriate ending for the years of support we have received from the Big 12."

NCAA Regionals will be hosted by Michigan, California, Arkansas and Florida in 2024. Regionals will feature nine teams and begin on Wednesday, April 3 with two teams at each site competing in the first round. Eight teams will compete in two sessions of four in the second round, and the top two in each session will advance to the regional final. The top two teams from the regional final will advance to the NCAA Championship.

The 2024 NCAA Championship will be held at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, April 18-20. Four teams will compete in each semifinal on Thursday with the finals slated for Saturday.

Coming off its sixth national championship and third in the last five years, the 2024 women's gymnastics team returns six gymnasts who combined for seven All-America honors in seniors Ragan Smith, Audrey Davis and Katherine LeVasseur, juniors Danielle Sievers and Jordan Bowers and sophomore Faith Torrez.

Smith opted to use her extra year provided by the NCAA due to the COVID-19 pandemic to return for a fifth season. In addition to the returners, the Sooners bring in freshmen Aspen Lenczner, Hannah Scheible and Keira Wells.
