At Oklahoma, we want our fans to connect with our student-athletes on and off the mat.Ā As a result, we'll be doing a "Get to Know Our Sooner Wrestlers" segment in our newsletters. In this edition, you'll get to know Mosha Schwartz.Ā
Question: What's your background off the mat? Where are you from?Ā
Answer: I am from Colorado and grew up there my whole life. I come from a very hard-working family and my mom is the person I look up to the most whenever I have a problem, I ask her what I should do. I grew up in a small town called FranktownĀ just outside Colorado Springs.Ā Ā
Q: How did you get into wrestling?Ā Ā
A: My grandfather introduced me to the world of wrestling when I was just four years old, recognizing my boundless energy and the need to channel it into something productive.Ā
Q: What about wrestling makes you love the sport?Ā
A: Wrestling has not only transformed me into a responsible and mature young man, but it has also funded my college education and opened the door to traveling all over the world.Ā
Q: What are some of your biggest accomplishments on the mat?
A: I am a three-time Fargo finalist, a two-time Fargo champion and a seven-time Fargo All-American. I have gotten to be on two world teams and two Pan-American teams, and with those Pan-Am teams I won a gold medal both times. I was a Big 12 finalist in my first season at Northern Colorado. Overall, I'm a three-time NCAA qualifier and was a COVID All-American in 2020.Ā
Q: You transferred to Oklahoma fromĀ Northern Colorado. What led to that decision?Ā
A: I chose to transfer to OU because of its renowned academic programs. What drew me to the OU culture was the strong sense of community and camaraderie among students and faculty. The rich sports tradition and passionate fan base at OU also played a role in my decision. I wanted to experience the excitement of Sooner wrestling and be part of a university with a proud athletic history.Ā
Q: What are you enjoying the most so far about wrestling for Coach Kish and his staff?Ā
A: I'm enjoying the fresh perspective the new coaching staff brings to the team. They're introducing innovative strategies and techniques that have reinvigorated our approach on the mat.Ā Ā
Q: What can OU fans expect when they see you on the mat?Ā
A: I'm always going to try new stuff on the mat. I want to be an exciting wrestler that people want to watch.
Q: What are your goals for the upcoming season?Ā
A: My goal is to be the Big 12 champion and an NCAA finalist.Ā
Q: Why should fans be excited about this new era of OU Wrestling?Ā
A: This team is full of really talented guys that just want to win. We have a lot of new faces that are really talented, and I think Sooner fans will be happy with what we do on the mat.Ā
