NORMAN – For the fourth week in a row, the Oklahoma women's gymnastics team remains the No. 1 team in the country.
In front of a sold-out and record-breaking crowd (6,473) at then-No. 9 Denver, senior Ragan Smith was perfect on beam and team posted the highest score in the nation this season with a 198.425 against the Pioneers Sunday afternoon inside Magness Arena. The score is also the only 198-plus road score on the season and the fifth-highest score in program history.
The Sooners boast a 197.969 average to hold the top spot nationally, while the top three remains the same for the third consecutive week – SEC opponent Florida is close behind with a 197.700 and Michigan at No. 3 with a 197.619. The Wolverines join OU as the only team to hit the 198-plus mark this season (198.125 on Jan. 13). Utah remains at No. 4 (197.569) this week, while UCLA jumps back into the top five (197.325). Fellow Big 12 member Denver (197.069) moves up to No. 8 after earning a season-high 197.425 against the Sooners Sunday afternoon.
For the fourth straight week, OU is the only team in the nation to be ranked in the top five on each of the four events (including top three on all four this week) and holds top season-highs on three (vault, bars and beam) out of four events. In back-to-back weeks, the Sooners are the top vault team (49.513) in the nation with a lineup featuring 10.0 start value vaults in all six spots. OU is second in the nation on bars with an average of 49.475. The bars squad earned a season-high 49.625 Sunday afternoon at Denver and share the highest score in the nation on the event with No. 2 Florida and No. 11 Alabama. The Sooners are also second on beam with an average 49.481, less than a tenth behind Utah, who has held the top spot for the past three weeks. OU is also third on floor with an average of 49.500 after matching a season-high 49.525 on the event.
Eight Sooners earned a total of 15 individual top-25 rankings, with at least one gymnast ranked in the top 10 on vault, beam, floor and in the all-around. At least three out of six gymnasts that competed on vault and beam are ranked in the top 25, including four that performed on beam Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore Jordan Bowers ranks in the top 20 in four of the five individual events (includes all-around), including three top-10 rankings. Bowers is ranked sixth in the country in the all-around with a 39.625 and less than a tenth behind a stacked field which includes nation's best all-arounder and reigning NCAA all-around champion Trinity Thomas (39.688; Florida), reigning Olympic all-around champion Suni Lee (39.675; Auburn) and 2020 Olympic champion Jade Carey (39.675; Oregon State). The Lincoln, Neb., native has posted four-straight scores of 39.500-plus this season, including a career-high 39.700 Sunday afternoon.
Bowers is ranked sixth in the nation on vault and is less than one-tenth behind 2022 world vault champion Carey, who leads the nation on the event with a 9.940. Bowers is also ranked No. 9 on floor (9.925) and No. 19 on bars (9.900).
Junior Audrey Davis is ranked-13th with a 39.500 all-around score, while also remaining in the top 25 on bars (9.913, No. 14) and floor with a 9.900 (No. 23). Davis moved up five spots in the bars standings after capturing the bars title at Denver Sunday afternoon with a near-perfect 9.975, matching a career best. The title marked the first event title for the Oakland, Fla., native this season and 14th career bars title.
Junior Katherine LeVasseur and super-senior Olivia Trautman made their debuts on beam this season with a pair of 9.950s Sunday afternoon to tie for No. 2 nationally on the event. The scores marked a season high for LeVasseur and tied a career high for Trautman who made her return to competition for the 2023 season. Senior Ragan Smith jumped 11 spots to No. 5 (9.919) nationally after earning her third perfect 10 of her career Sunday afternoon and becoming the first Sooner to earn a perfect 10 this season. Smith won her first beam title of the season and 13th overall on the event.
LeVasseur moved into the top five nationally with an average of 9.931 after earning a season-high and near-perfect 9.975 Sunday afternoon. Leading off the top-ranked vault squad, sophomore Danielle Sievers is No. 14 with a 9.900.
Jenna Dunn remains ranked on beam at No. 20 with a 9.894 average. The Oklahoma City native matched a career-high 9.925 in the leadoff spot on beam Sunday afternoon and helped OU to its third-best beam score in program history (49.725) and the top team score on the event this season. Freshman Faith Torrez is ranked 25th on beam with a 9.883 and remains in the top 20 all-around standings at No. 16 with a 39.425.
