NORMAN - Oklahoma senior Carmen Corley was named the Big 12 Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
The Sooners had a successful opening-weekend of the 2023 spring season. After contributing to the Missouri and Tarleton State shutouts, Corley earned the honor by going undefeated.
The Albuquerque, N.M., product kicked off the season with a top-court doubles win with sister Ivana Corley as they slid past Missouri's Laura Masic and Inah Canete with the 6-2 victory. Corley then met No. 66 Masic in singles, the only ranked-matchup of the day. She took court two with the quick 6-2, 6-2 win to finish first for the Sooners and give them the 2-0 lead.
Against Tarleton State, Corley was up 6-4, 2-1 at the top court in singles against Martha Makantasi when play was halted due to the OU clinch.
This is Corley's fifth career Big 12 Player of the Week honor and first this season. The accolade is OU's first of 2023.
The No. 4 Sooners return to action tonight at the Headington Family Tennis Center for a 5 p.m. CT match against Wyoming.
