NORMAN – University of Oklahoma assistant baseball coach
Clay Van Hook was announced as head coach at the University of Texas at Arlington on Friday.
"We want to thank
Clay Van Hook for everything he did over the last five years to help us build this program to where it is today," Oklahoma head coach
Skip Johnson said. "We are thrilled for Clay and his family for this incredible opportunity and wish him nothing but the best in the future."
Van Hook came to Oklahoma in July 2017 after Johnson was named head coach. While at OU, he served as hitting coach, third base coach and worked with the infielders. He also helped coordinate the offensive game plan and assisted in the Sooners' recruiting efforts.
This season, he was part of a coaching staff that guided Oklahoma to a 45-24 record, Big 12 Championship and an appearance in the NCAA Men's College World Series finals. The Sooners batted .293, averaged 7.5 runs and 9.8 hits per game and ranked fourth nationally with 145 stolen bases.
