Women's Basketball Set For Summer Tour in France

June 17, 2022 | Women's Basketball

NORMAN  The University of Oklahoma women's basketball team will head overseas this summer for a 10-day trip to France that features three games of international competition in preparation for the 2022-23 season. The Sooners depart Oklahoma August 3 and return on August 13.

Oklahoma, in partnership with Complete Sports Management, begins its foreign tour in Cannes where it will explore the city before heading to Monaco on August 6. On August 7, the Sooners travel to Lyon, France, where they'll take on Roanne Basket on August 9. Oklahoma then heads to Paris for a pair of games vs. the Lithuanian U23 national team on August 11 and August 12.

The preseason trip is not limited to just on-the-court action, as the Sooners will explore Cannes, Monaco, Monte Carlo, Lyon and Paris. In addition, the team will have countless sightseeing opportunities highlighted by numerous guided tours.

"We could not be more thrilled about taking a foreign tour this summer," Oklahoma head women's basketball coach Jennie Baranczyk said. "The opportunity for our team to travel abroad is exciting and will allow us to keep building our chemistry on and off the court. This experience will be incredibly impactful for our entire Oklahoma Basketball family."

The Sooners, in Baranczyk's first season, returned to the NCAA Tournament in 2021-22 after posting the program's first 25-win season in over a decade. Oklahoma, which ESPN ranked No. 10 in the initial Way-Too-Early Top 25 poll, returns nearly its entire roster along with 96% of its scoring production from last season's squad. All-America honorable mentions Madi Williams and Taylor Robertson, along with sixth-year and All-Big 12 selection Ana Llanusa, return to Norman for one final season and they'll look to guide Oklahoma to a deep postseason run.

Fans interested in season tickets for the 2022-23 campaign can submit an interest form to the Oklahoma ticket office today.

The NCAA allows basketball teams the opportunity to travel outside the U.S. to face foreign competition once every four years. This will mark the Sooners' first foreign tour since a trip to Spain in 2016.

More information on coverage of the Sooners' foreign tour will be made available at a later date.
