OU Student-Athletes Post Record-Setting 3.20 Cumulative GPA, Extend 3.0 Streak

NORMAN — University of Oklahoma student-athletes extended their streak of classroom success by posting a record-setting 3.20 cumulative GPA during the spring 2022 semester, the OU Athletics Department announced Wednesday. The performance broke the previous record set in fall 2020 and matched in spring 2021 and fall 2021. The 3.20 GPA resulted in a school-record 21st consecutive semester of surpassing a 3.0 cumulative figure.
OU's streak of student-athletes posting at least a 3.0 GPA began in spring 2012. The 3.20 cumulative spring GPA reflects the overall academic performance of those student-athletes from their first semester of collegiate enrollment through the completion of the spring 2022 term.
Fifteen of OU's 19 athletics teams posted better than a 3.0 cumulative GPA and three programs produced their highest cumulative GPAs: softball (3.36; tied), women's track and field (3.44) and volleyball (3.69).
"When combining the outstanding academic achievement of our student-athletes with their impressive athletic accomplishments, it just demonstrates how extraordinary these future leaders can be," said OU Vice President and Athletics Director Joe Castiglione. "To set a record cumulative GPA this semester is a testament to their commitment to continuing our department's tradition of academic success, as well as our commitment to creating a world-class experience geared toward preparing them for the next phase of their journey. I would like to thank the dedicated university faculty, academic center staff and coaches who support their efforts in the classroom."
Here are some additional spring semester academic accomplishments of OU student-athletes:
• Of the 527 student-athletes included in the latest grade report, 347 (66%) earned a 3.0 or higher GPA during the spring 2022 semester.
• Ninety-two student-athletes (17%) registered a perfect 4.0 GPA during the spring 2022 semester.
• OU student-athletes have collectively earned a cumulative GPA of 3.10 or higher in eight of the last nine semesters.
