Sooners Top ORU Tuesday Night

April 05, 2022 | Baseball

NORMAN – The trio of Peyton Graham, Blake Robertson and Tanner Tredaway combined for eight hits, seven runs scored and five RBIs to lead the Oklahoma baseball team to an 8-2 win over Oral Roberts Tuesday evening at L. Dale Mitchell Park.

Graham went 3 for 4 with two RBIs, three runs scored and his seventh home run of the season. Tredaway was 3 for 5 with two RBIs and two runs, and Robertson went 2 for 4 and tripled home Oklahoma's first run of the game. Jimmy Crooks added a triple and two RBIs, as the second through fifth hitters in the OU lineup accounted for nine of the team's 10 hits and all seven runs batted in.

The Sooners (17-10) jumped out in front with two runs in the first inning and another in the second, then tacked on two runs in the fifth and three more in the seventh inning. Five OU pitchers held the Golden Eagles (17-12) to six hits and single runs in the seventh and ninth innings.

Braden Carmichael (2-0) allowed a hit and struck out two over his 4.0 innings, retiring nine straight to end his outing. Carson Atwood worked around two hits in his 2.0 frames, Carter Campbell struck out three of the five batters he faced in 1.1 innings and Griffin Miller closed it out in the ninth.

"We really jumped out to a lead, and it was good to see Braden settle in and get some confidence from it," Oklahoma head coach Skip Johnson said. "When you get two or three runs early, you can kind of settle, you don't have to feel like you're pitching perfect. Then we started separating the game, having good at bats one after the other, which was really big, and we got some guys some work out of the bullpen."

Graham singled in the first inning and scored on Robertson's triple off the right center field wall to put Oklahoma on the board. Tredaway then lined a single to left, scoring Robertson. Graham singled home Wallace Clark in the second inning to make it 3-0.

The OU shortstop put another run on the board in the fifth inning with a moonshot home run to left field, and Crooks hit a pop fly that was lost by the defense and fell in right field, scoring Tredaway to extend the Sooners' lead to 5-0.

Tredaway doubled home Graham in the seventh inning and Crooks plated Robertson on a sacrifice fly. Tredaway moved around to score on a wild pitch, making it a 7-1 ballgame. ORU scored in the top of the seventh on a fielder's choice RBI by Jake McMurray and in the ninth on an RBI groundout by Mac McCroskey.

The Sooners travel to Stillwater, Okla., this weekend for the Bedlam Big 12 series against Oklahoma State. Game times are 6 p.m. Friday, 8 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday.
