ARLINGTON, Texas – Oklahoma led 7-1 after six innings, but No. 8 Texas scored 11 runs in the final three innings to win the Red River Rivalry series finale Sunday afternoon at Globe Life Field.
The Sooners (16-10, 3-3 Big 12) scored four runs in the first four innings, then extended the lead to 7-1 on a three-run home run by
Peyton Graham in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Longhorns (21-9, 3-3 Big 12) hit two three-run home runs in the top of the seventh, then broke the tie with five unearned runs in the top of the ninth.
Chazz Martinez turned in a stellar start, striking out seven batters and allowing a run on four hits in 5.2 innings. He did not give up a hit until the fifth inning. Graham went 3 for 4 with four RBIs,
Blake Robertson notched three hits and scored a run and
Cade Horton tallied two hits.
The Sooners scored in the bottom of the first when
Diego Muniz pushed a sacrifice squeeze bunt toward second base to score Graham. In the third inning, Graham scored on a balk.
Sebastian Orduno and Graham both singled in runs during the fourth inning to make the score 4-0.
After UT scored a run in the top of the sixth, Graham made it a 7-1 game with his three-run homer to left field. Orduno led off the inning with a walk and
Wallace Clark bunted for a single.
Both Dylan Campbell and Murphy Stehly hit three-run home runs in the top of the seventh for Texas, tying the game at 7-all. In the ninth, an error in the outfield with one out led to five unearned runs as the Longhorns took a 12-7 lead.
Robertson led off the bottom of the ninth with a double, and then scored on a one-out single by
Jimmy Crooks to make it 12-8, but a fielder's choice and a groundout ended the game.
Coy Cobb (2-0) earned the win for Texas while
Javier Ramos (1-1) took the loss.
The Sooners play host to Oral Roberts on Tuesday at L. Dale Mitchell Park. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
