By the Numbers: Sooners Win 2022 National Championship

n April 16, the Oklahoma women's gymnastics team secured it's fourthĀ national title in the last sixĀ years and fifthĀ overall. The Sooners came all the way back from fourth place after the first rotation.Ā defeating No. 2 Florida, No. 4 Utah and No. 7 AuburnĀ in the Four on the Floor. Here's a look back at an incredible two days at the NCAA Championships.Ā

The Sooners won their fifth overall national title on April 16. OU's first title came in 2014 when it tied with Florida, and the next three were secured outright in 2016, 2017 and 2019.Ā

Nine Sooners combined for 14 All-American honors during semifinal action. Jordan Bowers, who finished second on floor exercise, tallied three All-America honors in her freshman season. Bowers was named a first-team honoree on floor and picked up second team honors on vault and bars. Olivia Trautman, Danielle Sievers and Ragan Smith all earned a pair of All-America honors. Trautman was recognized as a second-team selection on both vault and beam. Sievers was a first-team selection on floor and a second-team selection on bars in her first season competing as a Sooner.Smith earned first-team honors on floor and second team honors on beam.Ā Audrey Davis, Danae Fletcher, Katherine LeVasseur, Allie Stern and Carly Woodard all claimed All-America honors as well. Stern picked up her second championship All-America honor with a first-team nod on vault. Davis earned her third All-America honor with a first-team nod on bars as she finished second at the meet. Woodard picked up her second career All-America honor on beam after being a first-team selection in 2019. Fletcher and LeVasseur each earned their first career honors. Fletcher was named a first-team selection on floor while LeVasseur earned a first-team nod on bars.

The Sooners posted at least a 49.600 on their final three events to storm back from fourth place to earn the national title. After a 49.1875 on floor, OU posted a 49.6625 on vault, a 49.725 on bars and a 49.625 on beam. It was just the second time in school history that the Sooners posted at least a 49.600 on three events at the NCAA Championship

After not posting any scores of 9.9 or higher in the first rotation, 14 of the Sooners last 18 routines went 9.9 or better. On bars and beam, the Sooners only counted scores of 9.9 or higher. On vault, four of the five counting scores were 9.9 or better.Ā

With the meet coming down to the final routines of the night, Ragan Smith clinched the Sooners fifth national title with a 9.9625 on beam. Smith was the final routine of the night and nailed her routine with a stuck gainer full dismount to secure the title for OU.Ā

Of the Sooners 24 competitive routines, 58 percent were done by freshman or sophomores (14 of 24). Of those routines, 57 percent were done by freshman (8 of 14).Ā
