Thirteen Sooners Earn Academic All-Big 12

NORMAN — Thirteen members of the top-ranked Oklahoma women's gymnastics team were named 2022 Academic All-Big 12 selections, the conference announced Wednesday.
Seniors Emma LaPinta, Allie Stern, Karrie Thomas, Olivia Trautman and Carly Woodard, junior Ragan Smith and Jenna Dunn, sophomores Bell Johnson, Katherine LeVasseur, Sheridan Ramsey and Meilin Sullivan and freshman Danae Fletcher were all named to the first team. Sophomore Audrey Davis earned second team honors.
In each of head coach K.J. Kindler's 16 seasons at the helm of the OU program, at least five Sooners have received academic accolades from the Big 12. Kindler's teams have now earned a total of 138 such awards in her time at Oklahoma.
Overall, 45 Big 12 student-athletes earned the academic recognition this year, with 40 being placed on the first team and five on the second team. Iowa State paced the league with 14 selections, followed by 13 from OU and nine each from West Virginia and Denver.
Thomas and Woodard earned honors for the fourth time in their careers, while LaPinta, Stern and Trautman earned honors for the third time. Dunn and Smith were honored for the second time in their careers. Johnson, LaPinta, Sullivan and Woodard were all honored with 4.0 GPAs.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
