Red River Baseball Rivalry to be Played at Globe Life Field

March 14, 2022 | Baseball

NORMAN – The Red River Rivalry is heading to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex in April. The University of Oklahoma and University of Texas baseball teams will play their April 1-3 Big 12 Conference series at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

As with the annual football showdown at the Cotton Bowl during the Texas State Fair each October, the baseball series this season will provide OU fans a chance to cheer on the Sooners against the Longhorns in DFW during the spring.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for our team, to play the OU-Texas series at Globe Life Field," Oklahoma head coach Skip Johnson said. "It's a really big deal. Oklahoma-Texas is a huge rivalry, and we're thankful to be able to play this series at a beautiful Major League ballpark. DFW is like a second home to OU and our fans, and we would love to see the stadium packed with crimson that weekend. We appreciate the Texas Rangers for hosting the series and our athletics administration for finding a unique opportunity to grow the sport of baseball."

The OU-Texas series, originally scheduled to be played in Norman, replaces a previously scheduled matchup between the Texas Rangers and New York Yankees at Globe Life Field. The unique opportunity was presented as a result of the Major League Baseball lockout and shifting of the MLB schedule.

Game times will remain as scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday and noon on Saturday and Sunday. Single Day Tickets and Weekend Passes for the weekend series are on sale now texasrangers.com/collegebaseball. Tickets are $30 for general admission for one game, or a weekend pass can be purchased for $80. Parking is available the day of the game for $25.

Oklahoma season ticket holders may claim comp tickets for the OU-Texas series by logging onto their SoonerSports.com account or by calling the OU Athletics Ticket Office at 405-325-2424. The deadline to claim comp tickets will be 5 pm on Friday, March 18.

Individuals that purchased single game tickets to any game of the series will have the option to exchange those tickets for another home baseball event or a ticket to the football Spring Game by contacting the OU Athletics Ticket Office.

"The Red River Rivalry is an epic matchup that we are thrilled to host at Globe Life Field," said Sean Decker, President of REV Entertainment. "Globe Life Field has served as the home to nearly 20 college baseball games this spring, and the addition of this Big 12 matchup further solidifies our commitment to the game of the baseball."

The Friday, April 1, series opener will be televised via SoonerSports.tv, while the Saturday contest will be shown on ESPN2 and the Sunday series finale will be on ESPNU. Radio broadcasts of all three games will be carried on the Sooner Radio Network.

Oklahoma has already played six games at Globe Life Field this season and owns a 4-2 record in the ballpark. The Sooners opened the season with two wins in the State Farm College Baseball Showdown and won two of three games over Northwestern State Feb. 25-27.

"Playing at any Major League ballpark is a blessing for us," redshirt senior outfielder Tanner Tredaway said. "The atmosphere and everything are so much bigger, and it's a big deal for a lot of guys. Being able to play Texas there makes it all that much better. The stands are going to be packed for sure, we love competing against Texas, and we can't wait to feel the energy in the ballpark for this series."
