OU Beats Baylor in Rainbow Wahine Classic Opener
March 10, 2022 | Softball
HONOLULU — No. 1 Oklahoma opened the Rainbow Wahine Classic with a 12-3 win over Baylor in five innings on Thursday.
The Sooners were powered by an eight-run second inning including a three-run home run from sophomore Tiare Jennings and three-run double from super senior Jocelyn Alo.
Alo had a productive performance, seeing plenty of pitches that she could hit for the first time in seven games. The Hawaii native went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Jennings went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored.
After a scoreless first, OU opened things up in the second scoring eight runs on four hits and a Baylor error. Redshirt senior Lynnsie Elam, junior Mackenzie Donihoo, Alo and Jennings all plated runs in the inning.
The Bears battled back in the third, scoring three runs on three hits, plating one via RBI single, one on an RBI triple and one on a wild pitch.
Redshirt senior Taylon Snow continued her tear at the plate with a three-run double in the fourth inning that nearly got out of the park for a grand slam.
Freshman Jordy Bahl, entering as a pinch hitter in the fifth, proved she's more than just an ace pitcher with an RBI single to center. It marked Bahl's first hit and RBI of her collegiate career.
Six Sooners registered a hit in the game with six also bringing in one or more runs.
Sophomore Nicole May collected her sixth win of the season in the circle, going three innings and striking out two while surrendering three runs on three hits. Redshirt senior Hope Trautwein closed for the Sooners, going the final two innings and striking out four of the six batters she faced. Trautwein gave up no runs or hits.
The top-ranked Sooners continue their weekend in Honolulu Friday with two games. OU meets Cal at 7:30 p.m. CT before a 10 p.m. contest versus host Hawaii.
Both of Friday's games are available to watch via SoonerSports.tv and heard on the radio on The Franchise 2 (103.3 FM/1560 AM) in Oklahoma and nationwide on the TuneIn app.
