NORMAN – For the fourth time this season, freshman Jordan Bowers has been named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week. This is Bowers' fifth career honor as she has also earned a Gymnast of the Week nod earlier in the season.
Bowers' honor marks the eighth-straight week that a Sooner has won newcomer of the week. Three Sooners have won the award with Danielle Sievers and Danae Fletcher each taking home a pair of accolades.
Bowers had a strong night against No. 3 Florida in Gainesville. The freshman responded to the tough opponent earning three scores of 9.9 or better. On floor, she had the team-high with a 9.925 and has posted at least a 9.9 on floor in every meet this season. Bower's vault score (9.925) moved her to No. 4 in the nation on the event.
Denver's Jessica Hutchison and West Virginia's Kendra Combs were named Co-Big 12 Gymnast of the Week and Iowa State's Maddie Diab earned Specialist of the Week honors.
The Sooners are back in action Friday night at 7:45 p.m. CT inside the LNC to take on No. 1 Michigan in the final home meet of the season. The five member senior class will be honored in a post-meet ceremony.
