The Cheryl Miller Award is given annually to the nation’s top small forward in women’s college basketball

NORMAN — A unanimous preseason All-Big 12 selection, Oklahoma women's basketball senior Madi Williams continues to stack accolades and was named a top-10 finalist for the Cheryl Miller Award, it was announced Wednesday by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

The Cheryl Miller Award is given annually to the nation's top small forward in women's college basketball. Williams is one of two Big 12 players on the final watch list, joining Iowa State's Ashley Joens.

Williams leads the Sooners in points (18.6) and rebounds (8.0) in 2021-22 and has Oklahoma amid its best season in over a decade as the Sooners sit in a tie for first in the Big 12 Conference. In addition, she is the reigning Big 12 Player of the Week, the fourth Sooner to earn the honor this year, making OU one of two Big 12 schools all-time to have four different players to win the accolade in a season.

The Fort Worth, Texas, has posted a team-high seven double-doubles this season to move into the top-10 in all-time double-doubles at Oklahoma, and she reached the 1,500-point mark on January 8th and sits eighth in all-time in scoring in Norman. She's the only player in the league and one of four nationally to average 18.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and have dished out at least 60 assists.

College basketball fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting presented by Dell Technologies in each of the three rounds. In late February, the watch list of 10 players for the 2022 Cheryl Miller Small Forward of the Year Award will be narrowed to five. In March those finalists will be presented to Ms. Miller and the Hall of Fame's selection committee where a winner will be selected.

The winner of the 2022 Cheryl Miller Award will be presented on a to-be-determined date, along with the other four members of the Women's Starting Five. Additional awards being presented include the Nancy Lieberman Point Guard Award, the Ann Meyers Drysdale Shooting Guard Award, the Katrina McClain Power Forward Award and the Lisa Leslie Center Award, in addition to the Men's Starting Five.

Previous winners of the Cheryl Miller Small Forward of the Year Award include Ashley Joens, Iowa State (2021), Satou Sabally, Oregon (2020), Bridget Carleton, Iowa State (2019) and Gabby Williams, Connecticut (2018).
