Current, Former Sooners Winter Cup Bound

NORMAN – Seven current and former Sooners are set to compete this Friday and Sunday (Feb. 25 and 27) at USA Gymnastics' annual Winter Cup in Frisco, Texas. The meet, which will be held at the Ford Center at The Star, marks the first elite national gymnastics meet of 2022.

Winter Cup will be available to watch on the Olympic Channel on Peacock on Friday at 6:30 p.m. CT and FlipNow.tv on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. CT.

Current OU gymnasts Fuzzy Benas, Jack Freeman, Raydel Gamboa and Zach Nunez and former Sooner Colin Van Wicklen will all be competing for spots on the U.S. Senior National Team.

Sooner alumnus and 2020 Olympian Yul Modauer and current Sooner Vitaliy Guimaraes will be striving to retain their spots on the squad.

Performances at the 2022 Winter Cup will determine the 12-man U.S. Senior Men's National Team roster.

"We're going to go out there, do our thing, have fun and enjoy the experience because it's only once a year," said Guimaraes. "It's good experience to get under our belt for the guys who want to push for Senior National Team and try to make International and World teams, so it should be a fun and exciting competition."

At last year's Winter Cup, Moldauer took home the event crown on parallel bars. He also finished third on floor, fourth on pommel horse and fifth on still rings. Guimaraes claimed two top-10 finishes, placing fifth on high bar and eighth on parallel bars.

OU 2022 signee and Junior National Team member Ignacio Yonkers is set to make his senior debut this weekend at Winter Cup.
