Sooners Dominate Frogs, Win By 35

February 23, 2022 | Women's Basketball

FORT WORTH – Six Sooners scored in double figures for the second time this year as No. 20 Oklahoma led from wire-to-wire, defeating TCU 92-57 in Fort Worth Wednesday night.

The win for Oklahoma (21-6, 10-5) snaps a three-game losing streak and notches the program's first 10-win conference season since 2017-18. The Sooners, who move back into a tie for third in the Big 12 with the win, tied a season-high by sinking 15 3-pointers to down the Frogs.

Madi Williams opened the scoring with a 3-pointer nine seconds into the game to give the Sooners a lead that they would nurse until the final buzzer, extending the advantage to 36 points midway through the fourth quarter. Oklahoma hit six treys in the opening frame to take a commanding 26-17 lead into the second quarter.

OU put together one of its most dominant 10-minute stretches of the year in the second, holding TCU (6-18, 2-13) to no field goals until the final 30 seconds of the second quarter. The Sooners outscored the Frogs 25-8 in the period behind a 23-4 run over eight minutes of play.

Leading 51-28 at the break, the Sooners poured it on in the second half, draining six more 3-pointers and shooting 44% from the field over the final 20 minutes. Oklahoma's lead ballooned to 36 at the 5:19 mark of the fourth, and TCU never cut the OU lead past 27 points as the Sooners tallied the 35-point, 92-57 win.

The 57 points allowed by Oklahoma were the second-fewest of the season as a stout defensive effort held TCU to 33% shooting and just 2-of-23 from behind the 3-point line. The Sooners dished out 24 assists, hitting 20 or more for a Big 12-best 13th time this season. Oklahoma's 15 made 3-pointers tied a season-high and are tied for the third-most in program history, as the Sooners' nine first-half treys are the second-most in a half all-time at OU. The Sooners improved to 11-0 on the season when outrebounding their opponent as Baranczyk's team won on the glass 44-37.

Nydia Lampkin set a new career-high by pouring in 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting, adding three rebounds in 15 minutes. Skylar Vann led the way with a team-high 17 points on an efficient 60% clip. Gabby Gregory scored a season-high 13 points off the bench, making a trio of treys and going a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe. Madi Williams scored 12 points behind a career-high four 3-pointers in just 13 minutes of action. Liz Scott and Taylor Robertson each added 11 points in the victory.

Williams was disqualified for stepping onto the floor during an altercation in the second quarter, but per Big 12 Conference rules will be eligible for Oklahoma's matchup with Kansas State on Saturday in Norman.

The Sooners return to Norman on Saturday when they host Kansas State at Lloyd Noble Center. The game is slated for a 4 p.m. tip on Bally Sports Oklahoma. The program will celebrate the 2002 Final Four team as it welcomes the team back for a 20-year reunion. Hall of fame head coach Sherri Coale, who led the Sooners for 25 years before retiring after the 2021 season, will be honored at halftime of the contest.
