NORMAN – For the third time this season, freshman Jordan Bowers has been named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week. This is Bowers' fourth career honor as she has also earned a Gymnast of the Week nod earlier in the season.
Bowers' honor marks the seventh-straight week that a Sooner has won newcomer of the week. Three Sooners have won the award with Danielle Sievers and Danae Fletcher each taking home a pair of accolades.
Bowers had an exceptional night at the Metroplex Challenge, earning a pair of event titles in the meet. The Lincoln, Neb., native earned a 9.975 on vault to tie her career high and help the Sooners to a season best 49.550 on the event. On bars, Bowers notched a 9.925 to take home a share of the event title. The freshman wrapped up her night with a 9.9 on floor, the third-highest score of the meet.
Denver's Jessica Hutchison was named the Big 12 Gymnast of the Week and Iowa State's Maddie Diab earned Specialist of the Week honors.
The Sooners are back in action Friday night at 5:45 p.m. CT in Gainesville, Fla. to take on No. 3 Florida.
