NORMAN – After a week where she notched the 25th double-double of her career, Madi Williams was named the Big 12 Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Friday.
In the Sooners' lone action of the week, the redshirt senior scored 22 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and tallied five steals in a 95-79 win over Florida at the Jumpman Invitational in Charlotte. Williams, who became the eighth all-time Sooner to reach 2,000 career points last Sunday, took the game over in the second half by scoring 16 points to lead Oklahoma to the win.
Williams leads No. 23/18 Oklahoma (10-1, 0-0 Big 12) in scoring this season, pouring in 16.5 points per game. The forward grabs 5.9 rebounds per game, along with 2.3 assists and 1.5 steals. The accolade is the fourth Big 12 player of the week honor for Williams, a two-time unanimous All-Big 12 first-team selection. Despite playing fewer minutes per game this season than last year, Williams has upped her efficiency and ranks in the nation's top 20 in field goals made per 40 minutes.
Williams and the Sooners are back in action Dec. 31 when they travel to Morgantown, W.Va., to open conference play vs. the Mountaineers.
