OU Falls to No. 9/8 Arkansas

NORMAN – Despite Grant Sherfield's third consecutive 20-plus point game, the Oklahoma men's basketball team (7-3, 0-0 Big 12) dropped the second annual Crimson & Cardinal Classic to No. 9/8 Arkansas (9-1, 0-0 SEC) 88-78 Saturday afternoon.
Sherfield finished 8 for 14 from the field and scored a team-high 23 points. The Fort Worth, Texas, product added three assists, three steals and two rebounds. Milos Uzan earned his second straight start and recorded a season-best 15 points. Uzan dished out five assists and recorded two rebounds. Jalen Hill scored 11 points and grabbed five boards.
Sherfield is the first Sooner since Austin Reaves to score 20-plus points in three consecutive games. Reaves finished with four such games and completed the task during the 2020-21 season.
Oklahoma realized its largest lead of the contest after Sherfield scored on a fastbreak, giving the Sooners the 21-12 lead with 11:57 in the first.
Over the next 10 minutes, Arkansas chipped away at the OU advantage and finished the first half on a 10-2 run. The Razorbacks entered the half up 43-40.
Arkansas extended its lead over the next 11 minutes and outscored the Sooners 26-13.
OU strung together three consecutive baskets to stop the Arkansas run. Sam Godwin slammed home his third dunk of the game and Joe Bamisile and Uzan each scored on a layup. Uzan's basket cut the UA lead back to 10 with under six minutes left.
The Sooners and Razorbacks traded baskets the remainder of the way and OU narrowed the gap to single digits four times.
Oklahoma shot 57.1% (32-56) from the field and 46.7% (7-15) from three. The Sooners finished 7-of-9 from the free throw line. Arkansas made 19 attempts from the charity stripe, making 14.
