Men's Gymnastics Announces 2023 Schedule

November 07, 2022 | Men's Gymnastics

NORMAN – University of Oklahoma head men's gymnastics coach Mark Williams and the Sooners announced their 2023 schedule Monday, highlighted by four home meets in Norman.

"I really feel like this is a very challenging schedule," said Williams. "We have meets about every weekend against a lot of good teams. We're meeting every team that was in the top six from last year. It's a season where we'll have to come out and be prepared every weekend to be very good."

Oklahoma will begin the season with the Houston National Invitational, a competition for individuals to qualify for the Winter Cup. Winter Cup will take place Feb. 24-26, but the location has not been set yet.

The Sooners will compete in their first team competition in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Jan. 21 at the annual Rocky Mountain Open on the campus of the United States Air Force Academy. The Sooners look to claim their 23rd Rocky Mountain open title in the past 24 years at the season-opening meet.

Following the trip to Colorado Springs, OU will return to Norman for three consecutive home meets, beginning with hosting Air Force and Illinois on Jan. 28.

Oklahoma will then host Simpson College, the newest addition to NCAA gymnastics, on Feb. 4. Simpson College is joining the ECAC Conference and will face the Sooners for the first time in Norman.

To conclude the homestand, defending national champion Stanford, as well as William & Mary, will visit Norman on Feb. 13. Oklahoma and Stanford have combined to take home the past seven NCAA Championships.

The Sooners will then head to Coach Williams' alma mater to face Nebraska on Feb. 17.

Following Nebraska, individuals who qualify for the USA Gymnastics Winter Cup will compete Feb. 24-26 to try to secure spots on the U.S. Senior Men's National Team. At last year's Winter Cup, senior Vitaliy Guimaraes won Winter Cup champion while junior Jack Freeman was named high bar champion.

Oklahoma will begin March with their last home meet, and senior night, against Michigan on March 4. Michigan finished in third behind the Sooners in the NCAA Finals in the 2022 season.

Spending the remainder of the season on the road, the Sooners will travel to Columbus, Ohio, to face both Ohio State and Penn State on March 11.

On March 18, the Sooners are set to go up against the Cal Bears in Berkeley, Calif., for the regular season finale.

The MPSF conference championships will be hosted by Air Force in Colorado Springs, Colo., on April 1 with the Sooners facing off against conference foes Air Force, Cal and Stanford.

Penn State University will host the 2023 NCAA Championships April 14-15 inside Rec Hall in State College. Oklahoma will be competing for their 13th title.

Season tickets for the Sooners four home meets in 2023 are on sale now
