OU Athletics Announces Partnership With Digital Brand Experience Company Mercury
November 04, 2022 | Athletics
NORMAN — The University of Oklahoma Athletics Department announced Friday its partnership with Mercury, a leading digital brand experience company dedicated to leading collegiate sports properties, top athletes and devoted fan bases. Through the partnership, Oklahoma fans will gain access to BoomerSooner.io, a premium digital platform providing specialized Sooner student-athlete-driven NIL content, official OU Athletics digital collectible drops and opportunities for fans to win experiences that bring them even closer to their favorite teams and athletes.
"As a department that prides itself in being a first-mover, we are extremely excited to partner with Mercury and introduce a new experience for the best fans in the nation," said OU Executive Associate Athletics Director for External Engagement Leah Beasley. "We were impressed by Mercury's mission to highlight our student-athletes as the individuals and leaders they are, and to help us blend our well-known history with the success and momentum our teams are experiencing."
"BoomerSooner" will include OU-led conversations on the new Next Up by Mercury podcast, team news and discussion forums, athlete chats and premium digital collectibles that create exclusive in-person access opportunities and capture the spirit of each individual athlete, the coaches and the defining moments across Oklahoma sports' seasons.
"Mercury's platforms are the best new way for student-athletes to grow their personal brands by connecting with their fans," said Jocelyn Alo, former Sooner softball player and the NCAA's all-time home runs leader. "'BoomerSooner' will be the go-to source for news and views directly from the players themselves and will offer the chance for student-athletes to have fun with the people who support their athletic journey."
The platform is made possible by recent NIL rule changes, which allow University of Oklahoma student-athletes to profit from endorsement opportunities using their name, image and likeness. "BoomerSooner" will offer fans numerous opportunities to engage with student-athletes through special events, one-on-one conversations, signed memorabilia and behind-the-scenes access.
"Oklahoma has some of the top teams, standout student-athletes and one of the most loyal fan bases in the country," said Porter Grieve, CEO of Mercury. "We are thrilled to team up with the university's athletics department and highlight the most dynamic student-athletes and teams in college sports today while adding specialized content that captures OU's traditions and history."
Oklahoma fans can access "BoomerSooner" today by visiting boomersooner.io. For more information, they can join the community Discord chat to connect with the student-athletes and fellow fans.
