ZURICH – Future Sooner and U.S. women's national team member, Addison Fatta, won the 2022 Swiss Cup in Zürich, Switzerland, Sunday morning alongside OU men's gymnastics alumnus and 2020 Tokyo Olympian, Yul Moldauer.
Fatta and Moldauer worked together in the meet's bracketed elimination format to advance through three rounds to win the cup by defeating Italy in the final round by less than three tenths (27.900-27.750).
The duo sat in third behind Italy and Turkey to open the competition. Fatta posted a 13.000 on vault and Moldauer earned an impressive 14.650 on parallel bars for a combined team score of 27.650. The two advanced into the semifinals with a combined score of 54.350, earning them the second seed for the head-to-head semifinal against Turkey.
In the semifinal, Fatta and Moldauer both competed on floor exercise and posted scores of 12.500 and 14.350, respectively. Their combined score of 26.850 was the second-best in the semifinal round and advanced Team USA into the finals for a head-to-head battle against Italy.
Fatta chose to compete on uneven bars again in the finals and showed an improved routine for 13.150 paired with Moldauer's strong 14.750 on parallel bars, edging Italy for the gold with a combined score of 27.900. Italy totaled a final-round score of 27.750, while Turkey outpaced Spain 27.550-27.300 to claim bronze.
This marked the second time the U.S. has won the event in the pairs' competition format and fourth overall. University of Oklahoma alumnus and 2020 Tokyo Olympic alternate, Allan Bower, and Oregon State gymnast and 2020 Olympic gold medalist, Jade Carey, last won the event for Team USA in 2019.
Fatta officially signed with OU on Nov. 9 and will arrive in Norman for the 2023-24 season.
