Sooners Land Three on Preseason All-Big 12 Team

October 05, 2022 | Women's Basketball

NORMAN – Led by a pair of unanimous selections, the Oklahoma women's basketball team had three players earn preseason All-Big 12 honors as voted on by the league's coaches, it was announced Wednesday.

Taylor Robertson and Madi Williams were two of the league's four unanimous selections to the preseason team as OU was the only team with multiple unanimous honorees. At the same time, guard Ana Llanusa was named an honorable mention selection for the second time in her career.

Robertson, the Big 12's all-time leader in 3-pointers with 446 makes, was selected as a unanimous preseason selection for the first time in her illustrious career. The sharpshooting guard is now a three-time preseason selection and boasts three postseason All-Big 12 honors, including a unanimous selection last season. The McPherson, Kan., product averaged 17.2 points and a career-high 4.7 rebounds in 2021-22 en route to an AP All-America honorable mention selection. After reaching 400 career treys faster than any man or woman in college basketball history, she enters the 2022-23 campaign 51 3-pointers away from Kelsey Mitchell's NCAA record.

Williams makes her second consecutive appearance as a unanimous selection on the preseason All-Big 12 squad. The fifth-year senior led the Sooners in points (18.0) and rebounds (7.5) last season, earning a unanimous All-Big 12 first-team selection and WBCA All-America honorable mention honor. By posting 18.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game in just 28.9 minutes a game last season, Williams joined UConn's Breanna Stewart and Maya Moore as the only Division I players to reach those marks since 2009. A product of Fort Worth, Texas, Williams has orchestrated one of the most productive careers in OU history, ranking inside Oklahoma's all-time top 10 in points, field goals, rebounds and double-doubles.

It's the second consecutive year that the two were named to the preseason All-Big 12 team. In 2021, the two became the first pair in Oklahoma history to earn spots on the same preseason All-Big 12 squad.

Llanusa is an honorable mention selection for the second time, making her a three-time honoree when her honorable mentions are combined with her first-team selection to the preseason team in 2019. The sixth-year senior returns to Norman for one final season after missing the final 24 games of 2021-22 with a knee injury. In 10 games last season, the Choctaw, Okla., product averaged 17.3 points and 2.3 assists per game.

The Sooners were picked third in the preseason poll and received one first-place vote. Oklahoma's 65 total points placed it behind Iowa State (75) and Texas (74), who both earned four first-place votes. Baylor trails Oklahoma with 62 points, followed by Kansas (49) and Kansas State (42). Texas Tech (29), West Virginia (26), Oklahoma State (23) and TCU (10) rounded out the polling.

Oklahoma's regular season opens Nov. 7 when it plays host to Oral Roberts at 4 p.m. CT inside Lloyd Noble Center. The Sooners' Big 12 slate starts Dec. 31 at West Virginia.
