Robertson, Williams On Positional Award Watch Lists

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – A pair of Sooners were named to the watch list for their respective positional player of the year awards, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced this week.

Taylor Robertson earned a spot on the Ann Meyers-Drysdale watch list for the fourth year in a row, while fellow redshirt senior Madi Williams is on the Cheryl Miller Award watch list for the second consecutive season. The two were finalists for their respective awards last season. A national committee of top college basketball personnel determined the watch lists comprised 20 players each.

Named after the first player, male or female, named to an All-America Team in four straight college seasons, the Ann Meyers-Drysdale award, in its sixth season, recognizes the top shooting guard in women's NCAA Division I college basketball.

Named after the three-time Naismith Player of the Year and Class of 1995 Hall of Famer, the annual award, in its sixth year, recognizes the top small forwards in women's NCAA Division I college basketball. A national committee of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates.

Robertson, the Big 12 record holder for career 3-pointers, returns to Oklahoma for one final season. The sharpshooting guard is the only player in women's basketball history to drain 100 3-pointers in three seasons, reaching 400 made treys faster than any men's or women's college basketball player ever. The AP All-America honorable mention is the nation's active leader in 3-pointers made (446), 3-point percentage (44.1%) and free throw percentage (91.9%).

Williams, a unanimous All-Big 12 selection a season ago, led the Sooners in scoring and rebounding in 2021-22. The WBCA All-America honorable mention joined UConn's Breanna Stewart and Maya Moore as one of three players since 2009 to average 18.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in under 30 minutes per contest last season. Her 1,847 career points rank inside the top 10 all-time at Oklahoma, and she is one of two Big 12 players with 1,800 points and 800 career boards.

Fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting presented by Dell Technologies in each of the three rounds. Voting will go live on Friday, Oct. 21. The lists will be narrowed down to 10 in mid-February. Then five finalists will be selected in March and presented to Cheryl Miller, Ms. Meyers-Drysdale and the selection committee.

The two awards winners will be presented on a to-be-determined date, along with the other three members of the Women's Starting Five. Additional awards being presented include the Nancy Lieberman Point Guard Award, the Katrina McClain Power Forward Award and the Lisa Leslie Center Award, in addition to the Men's Starting Five.

Previous winners of the Ann Meyers-Drysdale Shooting Guard of the Year Award include Ashley Owusu, Maryland (2021), Aari McDonald, Arizona (2020), Asia Durr, Louisville (2019) and Victoria Vivians, Mississippi State (2018).

Previous winners of the Cheryl Miller Small Forward of the Year Award are Ashley Joens, Iowa State (2021-22), Satou Sabally, Oregon (2020), Bridget Carleton, Iowa State (2019) and Gabby Williams, Connecticut (2018).

Oklahoma's regular season opens Nov. 7 when it plays host to Oral Roberts at 4 p.m. CT inside Lloyd Noble Center. The Sooners' Big 12 slate starts Dec. 31 at West Virginia. Over half of Oklahoma's regular season games will pit the Sooners against NCAA Tournament teams from last season, including four in the non-conference slate.
