Women's Hoops Unveils Conference Slate

September 15, 2021 | Women's Basketball

NORMAN – The Big 12 Conference released its women's basketball slate Wednesday, setting the dates for the Sooners' 18 Big 12-matchups in the 2021-22 season.

Under the leadership of first-year head coach Jennie Baranczyk, Oklahoma will open conference play in Lubbock, Texas, on Sunday, Jan. 2, when it takes on Texas Tech. The Sooners' home slate tips off Wednesday, Jan. 5, when OU plays host to Iowa State at Lloyd Noble Center.

The team's eight remaining home contests take place Jan. 12 vs. Baylor, Jan. 15 vs. TCU, Jan. 26 vs. Oklahoma State, Jan. 29 vs. Texas, Feb. 5 vs. West Virginia, Feb. 16 vs. Texas Tech, Feb. 26 vs. Kansas State and March 5 vs. Kansas.

Outside of the conference-opening Texas Tech game, OU hits the road for eight more Big 12 contests taking place on Jan. 8 at Kansas, Jan. 19 at West Virginia, Jan. 22 at Kansas State, Feb. 2 at Baylor, Feb. 12 at Texas, Feb. 19 at Iowa State, Feb. 23 at TCU and March 2 at Oklahoma State.

The conference schedule features a full double-round robin format for the 10th consecutive season. Last year, six Big 12 teams finished the season ranked inside the top 64 of the NET Rankings, including Oklahoma at No. 61.

The 2022 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship will be held March 10-13 at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo. The event was played in the venue last season for the first time since 2012.

OU returns eight players this season, including four starters from last year's team. The Sooners' experience runs deep into the bench, as Baranczyk's roster has combined for 421 games played in the Crimson and Cream. Oklahoma will look to All-Big 12 performers Ana Llanusa, Taylor Robertson and Madi Williams this season, as the Sooners are the only team in the Big 12 with three 1,000-point scorers.

Baranczyk was named the ninth head coach in OU women's basketball history in April. The Urbandale, Iowa, product led Drake to three NCAA Tournament appearances from 2017-19 and tallied six consecutive 20-win seasons from 2014-20.

Tip-off times and broadcast information will be announced at a later date, along with the Sooners' full schedule.

Women's basketball season tickets offer reserved seating in the lower arena and general admission seating in the upper arena. Seats start at $180 and $120, respectively, and can be purchased online at SoonerSports.com/buytickets or by calling the OU Athletics Ticket Office at (405) 325-2424.

Discounted season tickets are offered for senior citizens (55 and older) and youth (ages 6 through 18). In addition, OU students gain free admission to all women's basketball games with their school ID.
