XC Announces 2021 Schedule

NORMAN — University of Oklahoma head track and field/cross country coach Tim Langford and associate head cross country coach Hannah Fields announced OU's 2021 cross country schedule on Monday.

The Sooners will compete in three regular season meets in the fall before heading to Stillwater, Okla., for the Big 12 Cross Country Championship.

"We're super excited to get going," said Fields, the first-year associate head XC coach. "This first meet next week, the Cowboy Preview, is a 5K for the men and 3K for the women, so they're excited to just dip their toes in the water with a tough OSU course. It's a challenge, there are long hills so we've been putting in the work on hill training. There's always good competition at OSU, they bring in great teams from across the country. We're excited to get exposed to that competition and show what we've been working towards."

Oklahoma begins racing Wednesday, Sept. 1, at the OSU Cowboy Preview in Stillwater. The squad will take a two-week break before returning to Stillwater, Saturday, Sept. 18, for the Cowboy Jamboree. The Sooners' last stop before the Big 12 Championship will be the Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wis., Friday, Oct. 15.

"We're definitely looking forward to Nuttycombe," continued Fields. "It's a fast course that'll be a good confidence booster to display their hard work also against really good competition. It's one of the top meets in the country so we'll be looking forward to that one."

The postseason slate begins Friday, Oct. 29, at the Big 12 XC Championship in Stillwater. The Sooners then travel to Coralville, Iowa for the NCAA Midwest Regional on Friday, Nov. 12. The NCAA Championships will wrap up the 2021 cross country season on Saturday, Nov. 20 in Tallahassee, Fla.

"We have a tough region so it brings in some of the top cross country schools in the nation for our regional meet," concluded Fields. "I'm excited to get to compete against the best and we'll see what happens after that in terms of the national meet."
