NORMAN — University of Oklahoma softball rising senior Grace Lyons was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team, the organization announced Thursday.
Lyons, a biomedical engineering major and two-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection, claimed the honor after posting a 3.87 GPA in 2020-21. Additionally, Lyons has been a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection each of the past two years.
Equally impressive on the field, Lyons claimed numerous athletic honors in 2021, being named an NFCA All-American, All-Big 12 First Team member and the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. The Sooner shortstop was the anchor of OU's nation-leading defense, along with batting .392 with 14 home runs and 52 RBIs to help lead OU to its fifth national title in program history.
The 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-America Division I Softball Teams recognize student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Lyons was one of four Big 12 conference student-athletes named to the First, Second or Third Teams. The three teams feature 18 members with a 4.0 GPA and 22 members with at least a 3.90 GPA as either undergraduate or graduate student-athletes.
