Sooners Add All-Pac 12 Transfer Brito

July 02, 2021 | Softball

NORMAN — Oklahoma softball head coach Patty Gasso announced Friday the addition of transfer utility player Alyssa Brito from the University of Oregon.

Brito joins the Sooners following an All-Pac 12 season with the Ducks. The rising sophomore will have three years of eligibility with the Sooners and will look to contribute to OU's depth in 2022.

"We were in search of a player that can play multiple positions and play them all well, in addition to someone that can bring additional power to our lineup," said OU head coach Patty Gasso. "Alyssa checked all of those boxes. Her relationship with some of our current players also played a part.

"Her style of play is both athletic and energetic. We're excited and think she can be a game-changer for us."

As a freshman in Eugene, Brito collected Second Team All-Pac 12, Pac-12 All-Freshman Team and Pac-12 All-Defense accolades and was named to the NFCA's All-Pacific Region Second Team.

An athlete in the box and in the field, Brito started 53 games at shortstop in her first-year campaign with the Ducks, batting .299 with 10 home runs and 31 RBIs, adding five doubles, a triple and 30 runs scored. At shortstop, the Tustin, Calif., product registered 59 putouts, 73 assists and committed just four errors. Brito helped lead the Ducks to a 40-17 record in 2021 and NCAA Regional appearance.

"When I was on campus and met Coach Gasso and the staff, it felt like the perfect fit," said Brito. "The coaches, players and championship mindset were something that helped me choose OU during this process," said Brito. "I can't wait to get on the field and grind with this talented group of players."

A Premier Girls Fastpitch High School All-American, Brito was a highly-touted recruit out of Pacifica High School in the Los Angeles area.

The Sooners won their fifth national championship in June by defeating Florida State and accumulated a 56-4 record in 2021.
