Tyler Hardman has been named to the 2021 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I Central All-Region First Team and second baseman
Conor McKenna was a second-team all-region selection, the American Baseball Coaches Association announced Wednesday.
A fourth-year junior from Corona, Calif., Hardman is a finalist for the Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award, a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award and the Dick Howser Trophy and was a first-team All-Big 12 selection this season. He batted .397 with 49 RBIs, 49 runs scored, 12 home runs, 19 doubles, 148 total bases, 34 walks and three stolen bases. He ranks among the top 60 players nationally in hits (seventh), total bases (12th), hits per game (1.62; 15th), batting average (16th), on-base percentage (.481; 50th) and slugging percentage (.661; 58th). Hardman started all of OU's 55 games this season and registered at least one hit in 47 games, multiple hits in 29 contests and multiple RBIs 15 times.
McKenna turned in his best offensive season as a Sooner in 2021, batting .312 with 12 home runs, 49 RBIs, 11 doubles and 43 runs scored. He tied with Hardman for the team lead in home runs, RBIs and game with multiple RBIs, and ranked second on the squad in batting average, slugging percentage (.558) and OBP (.402). The fifth-year senior from Carlsbad, Calif., had multiple hits in 18 games and hit two grand slams this season (Feb. 22 against Omaha and April 6 against Oral Roberts). He homered in consecutive games twice and notched his first career two-homer contest on May 22 at Baylor.
As a first-team all-region selection, Hardman is nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors, which will be announced later this month.
