NORMAN  Six current and past Sooners are set to compete between two USA Gymnastics meets this weekend with one Sooner traveling to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with the U.S. Team for the Pan American Championships and five gymnasts heading to Fort Worth, Texas to compete in the U.S. Championships.

Rising senior Vitaliy Guimaraes was named to the 2021 U.S. Senior Men's National Team that will compete at the Pan American Championships in Rio de Janeiro, June 4-6. The five-time OU All-American, will be joined in Rio de Janeiro by fellow U.S. team members Cameron Bock (Michigan), Paul Juda (Michigan), Riley Loos (Stanford) and traveling alternate Donnell Whittenburg (Salto Gymnastics). Stanford University's Mark Freeman and the University of Michigan's Yuan Xiao have been named to the coaching staff.

Current and past Sooners Allan Bower, Gage Dyer, Yul Moldauer, Genki Suzuki and Matt Wenske are set to compete at the 2021 U.S. Championships held in the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, June 3-6. Two future Sooners Raydel Gamboa and Cailen Walker will be competing in the junior men's competition. The weekend's event will help determine who will compete in the U.S. Olympic Trials in St. Louis, Mo., June 24-27. The five athletes competing at the Pan Am Championships automatically qualify for the trials.

In addition to Guimaraes, who qualified to compete at the U.S. Championships but will not be competing, three more Sooners qualified to compete in Fort Worth this weekend but will not be in attendance. Colin Van Wicklen is petitioning to Trials due to illness, Kanji Oyama has recently retired from the sport and Fuzzy Benas is out due to injury. These additional four gymnasts bring the total to 11 current, past and future Sooners that qualified for the 2021 U.S. Championships.

The U.S. Championships will be broadcasted on The Olympic Channel at 7 p.m. CT, Thursday, June 3 and NBCSN at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 5. The Pan American Championships can be watched at panamsportschannel.org
