Guimaraes Named to U.S. Team for Pan American Championships

NORMAN  University of Oklahoma senior Vitaliy Guimaraes has been named one of four competing members of the U.S. team for the 2021 Pan American Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, June 4-6.

Guimaraes was named a team member following the 2021 U.S. Senior Men's National Team training camp in Indianapolis. Ind., April 28-May 1. The camp marked the first in-person training camp for Team USA since March 2020. Guimaraes was joined by four current and past Sooners Allan Bower, Yul Moldauer, Genki Suzuki and Matt Wenske.

The five-time OU All-American, Guimaraes, will be joined in Rio de Janeiro by fellow U.S. team members Cameron Bock (Michigan), Paul Juda (Michigan), Riley Loos (Stanford) and traveling alternate Donnell Whittenburg (Salto Gymnastics). Stanford University's Mark Freeman and the University of Michigan's Yuan Xiao have been named to the coaching staff. 

The Pan Am Championships is scheduled for the same weekend as the U.S. Gymnastics Championships, which will determine the athletes to travel to St. Louis, Mo., June 24-27, for the U.S. Olympic Trials. The five athletes competing at the Pan Am Championship automatically qualify for the trails. 

Current and past Sooners Bower, Gage Dyer, Moldauer, Kanji Oyama, Suzuki, Colin Van Wicklen and Wenske are set to compete at the 2021 U.S. Championships.
