"I thought it was a really good game. In a tight game, it's about the details of the game," Oklahoma head coach
Skip Johnson said. "I thought we were really good on the mound. Javier (Ramos) was better than he was last week, even though the numbers don't show. Ben (Abram) was good and (Carson) Carter was outstanding. We just have to situational hit. We situational hit early in the game, but we tried really hard when we left those runners on in the seventh. It's a game that we'll learn a lot from and continue to grow."
Carson Carter pitched 4.0 innings in relief, striking out six batters and allowing just one hit and one walk.
Javier Ramos struck out three batters in his only inning of work and
Ben Abram notched four strikeouts in three frames. OSU reliever Brett Standlee (3-0) earned the win and
Luke Taggart (0-3) took the loss.
OSU scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning on a double by catcher Max Hewitt. The Sooners got a run back in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly by right fielder
Jace Bohrofen, and then took a 3-2 lead in the fourth on a throwing error and an RBI groundout by catcher
Jimmy Crooks.
The Sooners extended their lead to 4-2 in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by shortstop
Brandon Zaragoza that scored second baseman
Conor McKenna. Zaragoza (RBI, run scored), center fielder
Tanner Tredaway and designated hitter
Diego Muniz (run scored) all went 2 for 4 in the game, and Bohrofen added three walks to his ledger.
OU put two runners on base in the sixth through ninth innings, but we unable to produce a run. Carter, meanwhile, retired 11 straight OSU batters from the end of the fifth through the eighth inning.
The Cowboys loaded the bases in the ninth inning on two singles and a fielder's choice bunt. Center fielder Caeden Trenkle then singled through the right side of the infield to bring in the winning run.
