OU Earns Top Seed in Tuscaloosa Regional

NORMAN – For the 11th consecutive season, the Oklahoma women's gymnastics team has a earned a No. 1 seed for NCAA regional competition. The NCAA announced today that OU is the No. 1 seed in the Tuscaloosa Regional and will face No. 7 Alabama, No. 10 Arkansas, No. 15 Auburn, Missouri, Iowa, Iowa State, Eastern Michigan and Maryland.

The regional begins on April 1 with the first round featuring Eastern Michigan and Maryland. The winner will advance to the second round on April 2. The afternoon session of round two will begin at 1 p.m. CT and will feature host Alabama, Arkansas, Iowa and Iowa State.

The evening session begins at 7 p.m. CT and will include the top-seed Sooners, No. 15 Auburn, Missouri and the winner of the first round. As the No. 1 seed, the Sooners will begin on beam and finish on bars. Should OU finish first in the second round, they will rotate in Olympic order in the regional final. If they finish second, the Sooners will open on floor.

The top two teams from each session will advance to Saturday's regional final, beginning at 7 p.m. CT. The top two teams will advance to the NCAA Championships April 16-17 in Fort Worth, Texas.

OU, which holds a national qualifying score (NQS) of 197.944, will aim for its 11th consecutive regional title and 17th straight NCAA Championships berth at regional competition. Last weekend, the Sooners were the runner-up at the 2021 Big 12 Championship and enter the postseason with a 20-1 record.

The Sooners will be led into competition by head coach K.J. Kindler, the 2021 Big 12 Coach of the Year. Kindler has guided OU to 11 NCAA regional titles, 11 Big 12 championships and 13 NCAA Championship appearances. Under Kindler's leadership, OU has achieved nine top-three NCAA finishes since 2010 and won four national championships.
