Sooners Continue to Hold No. 1 Spot

NORMAN – After week nine of NCAA men's gymnastics competition, Oklahoma continues to hold the top spot in the College Gymnastics Association (CGA) standings. The No. 1 Sooners tied No. 4 Stanford last weekend, 409.300-409.300.
 
The Sooners hold the top team average (413.867) and hold a top three spot in all six events. The Sooners rank first on floor exercise (71.117), second on still rings (68.050), vault (72.783), parallel bars (68.733) and high bar (67.217) and third on pommel horse (67.383). 

Individually, Sooners hold three of the top 10 spots in the all-around rankings, led by junior Spencer Goodell's 81.467, which is good for sixth. Junior Vitaliy Guimaraes holds eighth with an 80.917 and senior Matt Wenske ranks tenth in the nation with his 80.717 all-around NQA. 

On floor exercise, Sooners hold two of the top five spots in the CGA standings. Senior Gage Dyer ranks No. 1 with a 14.850, putting him 0.200 ahead of his closet opponent. Junior Morgan Seyler ranks fourth at 14.450.

OU holds two top-10 spots in the pommel horse standings, led by Guimaraes' 13.767, good for ninth place. Freshman Zach Nunez follows close behind in the number 10 spot with a 13.767.

On still rings, two Sooners find themselves in the top 10. Wenske leads the way with his 13.833 average that ranks ninth overall. In tenth, Guimaraes holds his third top-10 spot in the country on rings with a 13.817 average, and Goodell is right behind him in 12th with a 13.767.

The Sooners have three in the top-10 on vault. Junior Mason Menser is ranked fourth in the nation with a 14.717. Wenske holds the eight spot with a 14.650 vault NQA. Dyer holds ninth with a 14.617.

Oklahoma put three gymnasts in the top 10 in the parallel bars ranks following week nine. Wenske (14.050) ranks seventh, while Goodell (13.800) holds ninth and sophomore Alan Camillus (13.783) holds tenth.

On the last event, high bar, Guimaraes collects his fourth top-10 spot in the country with a 13.800 average, putting him in the four spot. Sophomore Jack Freeman finds himself eleventh with a 13.517.

The Sooners return to the floor this weekend against No. 11 California at 5 p.m. CT Saturday evening in Berkeley, Callif.
