Tyler Hardman hit an incredible .833 (10 for 12) with four extra base hits, three walks and 10 runs scored in three games last week, and was named the Big 12 Baseball Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Hardman, a fourth-year junior, hit for the cycle on Sunday, going 5 for 5 with four RBIs and three runs in the first game of OU's doubleheader against Arkansas State. In order, he homered, doubled, singled and tripled (then added another single in the ninth inning) to become the first Sooner in more than a decade to register all four different hits in a game. He followed that performance with a 3-for-3 game, scoring four runs in the nightcap.
Entering Monday's series finale with Arkansas State, the Corona, Calif., product had reached in 13 consecutive plate appearances going back to Tuesday's win over UT Arlington. In that contest, he went 2 for 4 and scored three runs. Overall, Hardman compiled an astounding 1.417 slugging percentage and .875 OBP (2.292 OPS) last week, only striking out once in his 16 plate appearances.
Hardman became the first Sooner since 2010 to hit for the cycle (Cameron Seitzer vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff) and the first OU player since 2015 to notch five hits in a game (Craig Aikin had six hits vs. Little Rock).
