AMES, Iowa ā In their final meet before the Big 12 Championships and the beginning of postseason competition, the No. 1 Oklahoma women's gymnastics team took down Iowa State, 197.475-196.825, inside Hilton Coliseum.
The Sooners took home three of four event titles and the all-around title. Senior Anastasia Webb earned the event titles on bars with a 9.925, floor with a 9.95 and the all-around with a 39.650. Senior Karrie Thomas earned the beam title with a 9.95. Iowa State's Makayla Maxwell took home vault with a 9.925.
Opening the meet on bars, the Sooners stuck five of six dismounts to earn a 49.450 in the first rotation. Junior Olivia Trautman kicked things off with a 9.875 on her stuck double layout. Freshman Katherine LeVasseur nailed her double layout for a 9.850, followed by a 9.875 from senior Jordan Draper. Webb stuck her double front half-out dismount to earn a meet-best 9.925. Sophomore Ragan Smith added a 9.875 in the No. 5 spot and a stuck double layout. Anchoring was senior Karrie Thomas who nailed her dismount for a 9.9.
On vault, the Sooners tallied a strong 49.350. Junior Allie Stern notched a 9.85 on her Yurchenko 1.5, followed by a 9.9 from LeVasseur. Webb added a 9.9 of her own thanks to a huge 1.5 in the No. 4 spot. In her hometown of Ames, senior Evy Schoepfer earned a 9.85 on her tucked 1.5. Trautman anchored with a gorgeous 1.5 for a 9.85.
In the third rotation, the Sooners went 49.350 on floor. Draper got things started with her high energy routine for a 9.825. Schoepfer had the Ames crowd cheering for her performance in the No. 2 spot as she notched a 9.875. Freshman Bell Johnson notched a 9.825 in the No. 3 spot, followed by a 9.775 from junior Emma LaPinta. Back in the lineup, Deniz put up a strong performance with elegant choreography for a 9.875 in the No. 5 spot. Anchoring was Webb who performed one of her strongest routines of the season to match her career-high with a 9.95.
In the final rotation, the Sooners tallied a 49.325. After a fall in the leadoff spot, Schoepfer performed well under pressure notching a 9.825 in the No. 2 spot. Senior Carly Woodard showcased her reliability in tough situations with a gorgeous routine for a 9.800 in the third spot of the lineup. Smith returned to the beam lineup for the first time since Feb. 7, notching a 9.875. Thomas came up clutch with a huge career high 9.95 in the No. 5 spot. Webb anchored with a 9.875.
The Sooners will look to continue their streak of Big 12 titles at the 2021 Big 12 Championships. Denver, Iowa State, West Virginia and Oklahoma will meet in Morgantown, W.Va., on Saturday, March 20, for the championship. The meet will air on ESPN2 at 1 p.m. CT.
