Sooners Hold Top Spot

NORMAN – After week eight of NCAA men's gymnastics competition, Oklahoma continues to hold the top spot in the College Gymnastics Association (CGA) standings and coaches poll. The No. 1 Sooners toppled William & Mary College last weekend, 403.700-384.900.
 
The Sooners hold the top team average (413.867) along with the top spots on four of six events. The Sooners rank first on floor exercise (70.450), still rings (67.883), parallel bars (68.450), high bar (67.217) and second on pommel horse (67.750) and vault (72.317). 

Individually, Sooners hold three of the top -10 spots in the all-around rankings, led by junior Vitaliy Guimaraes' 81.250, which is good for seventh. Junior Spencer Goodell holds spot nine with a 80.800 and senior Matt Wenske holds tenth in the country after his 79.400 all-around effort.  

On floor exercise, Sooners hold two of the top five spots in the CGA standings. Senior Gage Dyer ranks No. 1 with a 14.850, putting him 0.200 ahead of his closet opponent. Junior Morgan Seyler ranks fourth at 14.450.

OU holds one top-10 spot in the pommel horse standings, led by Guimaraes' 13.767, good for sixth place. Freshman Zach Nunez follows close behind in the number 11 spot with a 13.717.

On still rings, three Sooners find themselves in the top 10. Wenske leads the way with his 13.833 average that ranks seventh overall. In eighth, Guimaraes holds his third top-10 spot in the country on rings with a 13.817 average, and Goodell is right behind him in ninth with a 13.717.

The Sooners have two in the top-10 on vault. Junior Mason Menser is ranked sixth in the nation with a 14.633. Goodell holds the nine spot with a 14.633 vault NQA. Dyer ties for eleventh with a 14.533.
Oklahoma put two gymnasts in the top 10 in the parallel bars ranks following week eight. Wenske (13.933) ranks seventh, while Goodell (13.717) holds ninth.

On the last event, high bar, two Sooners find themselves in the top-10. Guimaraes collects his fourth top-10 spot in the country with a 13.800 average, putting him in the four spot. Sophomore Jack Freeman finds himself tenth with a 13.517.

The Sooners return to the floor this weekend against No. 3 Stanford at 1 p.m. CT Saturday afternoon at McCasland Field House. The meet will be available to watch on FOX Sports Oklahoma, FOX Sports Southwest and FOX Sports Southeast. 

Due to limited seating capacity related to COVID-19 precautions, OU will not sell season or single-meet tickets to the Sooners' home meets at McCasland Field House. Home and visitor student-athletes will receive a limited number of complimentary tickets on a pass-list basis.
