NORMAN — University of Oklahoma men's gymnasts Gage Dyer and Vitaliy Guimaraes combined to collect three weekly honors, the College Gymnastics Association and MPSF conference announced Tuesday.
Dyer claims his second consecutive CGA Specialist of the Week honor for his floor and vault performance over the weekend versus Army. Dyer registered an NCAA season-high score across any apparatus with his 14.950 on floor that won him the event crown. The senior also competed vault for the Sooners, registering a meet-winning 14.750 on his difficult triple-twisting full vault.
Guimaraes claims his first weekly honors of the 2021 season, winning CGA and MPSF Gymnast of the Week following his all-around performance on Saturday against the Black Knights. Guimaraes competed all-around for the first time this season in the Sooners virtual victory over Army. Guimaraes put up a 82.850 showing with event titles on still rings (13.800) and high bar (13.750). The junior also recorded a season-high 14.450 on floor exercise and career best 13.900 on pommel horse. His all-around tally ranks as third in the country.
The Sooners will take a break from NCAA competition for the month of February and return to competition March 6 for a scheduled visit to Williamsburg, Va., for a meet with William & Mary College.
Select OU gymnasts will take part in the USA Gymnastics meet, Winter Cup, held this year in Indianapolis, Ind., Feb. 26-28. The meet showcases the top U.S. gymnasts in the country as they compete for national team spots.
