Jennings Named Big 12 Player of the Week

February 16, 2021 | Softball

NORMAN — University of Oklahoma freshman Tiare Jennings was named Big 12 Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Jennings began her collegiate career with a bang at the Miner Invitational, going 12-for-13 at the plate with five home runs, 12 RBIs and a .983 BA. She hit three HRs in her first game, helping OU to an NCAA single-game record 13 HRs in a 29-0 rout over UTEP.

The San Pedro, Calif., product finished the weekend with a team-leading 30 total bases and eight extra base hits as the Sooners swept through opening weekend with four run-rule victories. Jennings paces the team in a number of categories including hits, total bases and extra base hits and is second on the squad in home runs, only to Grace Lyons' six blasts.

The Sooners return to the field this weekend for four games at Sam Houston State and Houston, two scheduled at each location on Saturday and Sunday, weather permitting.
