Reaves Named Big 12 Player of the Week

February 15, 2021 | Men's Basketball

NORMAN – Oklahoma senior guard Austin Reaves has been named co-Big 12 Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. He shares the honor with West Virginia's Sean McNeil.Ā

Reaves is the third Sooner guard to earn the Big 12's weekly award, joining Umoja Gibson (Jan. 4) and De'Vion Harmon (Feb. 1).Ā

The senior led Oklahoma to a road win at No. 14 West Virginia on Saturday, hitting the game-winning bucket with 26 seconds remaining in the second overtime period. Reaves tallied a near-triple-double of 28 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. He shot 50% from the field and went 7-for-7 at the foul line.Ā

Reaves was instrumental late in the game, scoring 22 points after halftime.

With his stat line, Reaves became just the third player in Big 12 history to produce a game of 28 points, nine rebounds and seven assists, joining Trae Young (2018) and Oklahoma State's Maurice Baker (2001). He is the only major-conference player with a 28-9-7 game over the last two seasons.

Reaves is the only Division I player averaging at least 16.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 5.4 assists.Ā

Oklahoma's victory over the Mountaineers was the Sooners' fifth win over a top-15 team this season, tied with Ohio State for the most in the country. The Sooners have won seven of their last eight games and checked in at No. 9 in Monday's AP Top-25 – tied for the highest they've been in the poll this season.
